8ft Honeycomb Structure Discovered by Helliar Pest control
Helliar Pest Control recently carried out the safe removal of a well-established honeybee colony from a domestic chimney in Somerset. The colony had been active in the flue for over four years, gradually filling the space with honeycomb and posing a risk to both the property and the bees.
Upon inspection, the chimney was found to contain a substantial hive structure, with honeycomb extending approximately 8 feet in length. This scale of infestation is uncommon and required careful planning to remove without damage to the property or harming the colony.
Safe Extraction and Bee Relocation in Somerset & Dorset
Our team performed a full honeybee extraction using professional equipment and humane methods. The bees and their hive were carefully removed section by section, ensuring minimal disruption to the colony.
Once extracted, the honeybee colony was safely relocated to a managed rural site with a local beekeeper. Helliar’s Pest Control always prioritises bee welfare during removals and works to support sustainable pollination practices by rehoming live colonies where possible.
Why Choose Relocation Over Extermination?
In the UK, honeybees are not considered pests and are highly valued for their role in pollination. Exterminating bees not only damages local ecosystems but can also violate conservation efforts. That’s why Helliar Pest Control prioritises humane relocation.
Benefits of Bee Relocation:
- Protects bee populations – Supporting the environment and honey and beeswax production
- Keeps your property safe – Avoids potential damage from honeycomb and pests
- Ethically-responsible – Aligned with environmental best practices
